Proxy Server
Configuration of the UZH Web/FTP-Proxy Server
Purpose: The UZH Proxy server, operated by the Center for Informatics Services ("Informatikdienste"), allows access to restricted web pages from home or elsewhere outside the UZH computer network, e.g. you may browse scientific journals or download software from the UZH FTP server.
What is a proxy server?
A server that sits between a client application, such as a Web browser, and a real server. It intercepts all requests to the real server to see if it can fulfill the requests itself. If not, it forwards the request to the real server.
